There's no such thing as a free lunch...Or is there?

It's official. The next president of Indonesia is former army general Prabowo Subianto. Quite how the next five years will pan out is anyone's guess but hopefully the foreign pundits who always bring up his dodgy human rights record will be proven wrong. Nonetheless, on policy making, Prabowo's popularist move to literally offer the poor 'a free lunch' every day of the week does not augur well for the future. Such a policy - if it ever came to fruition - would cost a phenomenal amount of money and likely lead to huge inefficiencies (food waste) and poor incentives (make people lazy). Another concern is Prabowo's strong nationalist bent. Thus, in the possible event that he finds himself with his back against the proverbial wall in the face of stern economic challenges, there is a big chance that he will simply scapegoat foreigners. Jackson Pollocks and Indonesia

Green skeptics. I ain’t one of them. The world is getting a dirtier, meaner place day by day.

Population of Java 200 years ago: 5 million. Tigers seen on the rail journey from Jakarta to Surabaya. Now the population of Java is 130 million and rising. The population of Jakarta is now 8 million. By 2020 it will be 20 million.

The latest research shows the oceans are been raped at an unsustainable pace:

Roughly one-third of seafood species have collapsed so far. That means their catch has declined 90 percent below the historic maximum. Of these sea species, seven percent have become extinct.

And if the current trends continue, 100 percent of species will collapse by the year 2048 or around then.

Meanwhile, elephants are killing villagers in North Sumatra. Not that they are violent creatures mind you, but due to our stupidity they have no where else to go, as their habitats are shrinking fast due to illegal logging and land clearing.

Anyway, here’s a painting for ya to look at:

Wonderful art or just a load of old Pollocks?

Well the latter in my opinion. I mean art is supposed to move you for God’s sake. Elicit an emotional response. Make you feel happy, sad, amazed, angry. But this? I wouldn’t even put it up in my house if someone paid me to. Utter rubbish.

And you know how much it sold for yesterday?

US$140 million!!!!!!!!
