BMTH live in Jakarta 2024

This time around Ravel gets it right and BMTH (Bring Me The Horizon) are headlining the Nexfest festival in Jakarta which also features Babymetal. In this format there is no seating - which makes for a much more intimate experience - although you do have to arrive really early if you want to pick a spot right up close to the stage.  We arrived about six hours before BMTH were scheduled to start their performance and bought plenty of drinks to stay hydrated in the tropical afternoon heat (mind you, some of those were Iceland vodka mix!) This was a gig I had long been looking forward to - especially after the debacle last year. Not everyone likes BMTH of course. For deathcore fans the band sold out. You can't please everyone of course but there are few bands in the rock world which can match the sheer emotional velocity of BMTH. To bring metal and even aspects of metalcore t

Padang Padang Beach, Bali

Padang Padang Beach is the beach made famous by American actress Julia Roberts in her much maligned film “Eat Pray Love”. The beach is accessible from Jalan Labuhan Sait, Pecatu, and about a 15-minute drive from the huge – yet uncompleted - statue of the Hindu God Vishnu at the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park. Just follow the road and look for the off-street parking sign.

To get to the beach from the car park it’s a 5-minute walk on a path which takes you through a narrow crevice between some huge rocks. I’m pleased to say that this beach is a huge improvement on the now ruined and overly-commercialized Dreamland Beach which is not far away.

The sea at Padang Padang is really calm and some people even do a bit of snorkeling – not that they will find too much sea life though! Further out, however, and there are some big breaks and this explains why Padang Padang has become famous as Bali’s premier surf spot despite being very dangerous because of the exposed rocks.

A far better option than trying to tackle the hazardous surf is just chilling out on the beach. Work on the tan. And read a book - as long as it ain’t that rubbish novel about an American woman trying to “find herself” in Bali! Hahaha!
