There's no such thing as a free lunch...Or is there?

It's official. The next president of Indonesia is former army general Prabowo Subianto. Quite how the next five years will pan out is anyone's guess but hopefully the foreign pundits who always bring up his dodgy human rights record will be proven wrong. Nonetheless, on policy making, Prabowo's popularist move to literally offer the poor 'a free lunch' every day of the week does not augur well for the future. Such a policy - if it ever came to fruition - would cost a phenomenal amount of money and likely lead to huge inefficiencies (food waste) and poor incentives (make people lazy). Another concern is Prabowo's strong nationalist bent. Tropical Spa

Club Tropicana, drinks are free,
Fun and sunshine - there's enough for everyone.
All that's missing is the sea…
~Wham!

Well, that’s not entirely true of course, as the drinks at Jakarta’s Tropical Spa are most definitely not free and the city’s horrendous pollution stops a lot of the sunshine from getting through. Fun, however, is available in copious quantities thanks to an army of well-drilled young therapists who take a very hands on approach to ensuring customer satisfaction. In many ways, what goes on at Tropical Spa Jakarta is very much in the ethos of a wild and uninhibited Club 18 holiday. And I’m sure I don’t have to tell you why that is!

In terms of practicalities, you should watch out for one thing: it can be quite hard to find the spa if you are going there for the first time. The spa is actually located just behind the Roxy Mas ITC mall, so you need to leave the mall via the rear entrance, before turning left on the first street, and then looking for a imposing 3-4 storey building with a large Tropical Spa sign in the front. Ask a satpam if you get confused.

Wallet damage for a really good time is somewhere in the Rp600k mark – not too bad by Jakarta standards. Fun and sunshine...
