There's no such thing as a free lunch...Or is there?

It's official. The next president of Indonesia is former army general Prabowo Subianto. Quite how the next five years will pan out is anyone's guess but hopefully the foreign pundits who always bring up his dodgy human rights record will be proven wrong. Nonetheless, on policy making, Prabowo's popularist move to literally offer the poor 'a free lunch' every day of the week does not augur well for the future. Such a policy - if it ever came to fruition - would cost a phenomenal amount of money and likely lead to huge inefficiencies (food waste) and poor incentives (make people lazy). Griya Sehat SPA
One would imagine that Old Suggs – now a pentagenarian would you believe? - would be right at home in Griya Sehat (the House of Health) despite his advancing years.

Located in the low-rise wastelands of West Jakarta, and a far cry from the plush uptown glitz of Jalan Sudirman/Jalan Thamrin, this value-for-money and unpretentious spa is located in what Indonesians call a ruko, a sort of cross between a house and office, or basically a small building which can be used for pretty much any purpose you want. Yes, even a spa.

Facilities include a sauna and the usual hot and cold baths. Rooms can be rented for around Rp150-200k. All in all, the total damage is around Rp500k++ for a very nice time indeed.

Yup, it’s a long way to get here. But the journey is most definitely worth it! Enjoy!
