There's no such thing as a free lunch...Or is there?

It's official. The next president of Indonesia is former army general Prabowo Subianto. Quite how the next five years will pan out is anyone's guess but hopefully the foreign pundits who always bring up his dodgy human rights record will be proven wrong. Nonetheless, on policy making, Prabowo's popularist move to literally offer the poor 'a free lunch' every day of the week does not augur well for the future. Such a policy - if it ever came to fruition - would cost a phenomenal amount of money and likely lead to huge inefficiencies (food waste) and poor incentives (make people lazy). Another concern is Prabowo's strong nationalist bent. Y Grill – Jakarta’s most expensive restaurant?

For me, this is the best restaurant in Jakarta. It’s also possibly the most expensive. But like all things in life, you get what you pay for. And grade 9+ wagyu, the most tender and magnificent steak on planet Earth, does not come cheap I can tell you.

The setting is equally impressive. Modern, clean and sleek, but not clinical or cold. This is a place where successful people come. Where things get done and you don’t sweat the small stuff. No sharp edges. Quality design and superior materials. The gastronomic equivalent of a Mercedes or Porsche.

The wagyu is imported from the good folk Down Under and the cows are raised on a diet of hearty foods and – I kid you not - good quality red wines!

Besides the wagyu, the other culinary offerings include king crab claw, fresh oyster, and, as you might expect, yakiniku, shabu-shabu and tepanyaki.

The desserts, which are also prepared to equally exacting standards of perfection, include the must-try ‘molecular’ berries of fruit liquid.

An unforgettable experience I can assure you!

NOTE:  Now permanently closed
Perhaps it was too expensive! Hahaha!!!!
